1870s Wade & Butcher, Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor
1870s Wade & Butcher, Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor
This beautiful Wade & Butcher manufactured in Sheffield, England was restored bringing it to a high mirror polish. The blade has beautifully elegant details from the manufacturer's tang stamp, hump back, swayed spine, smile and barber's notch. Nearly 150 years old this blade has a certain mystique - one never knows who owned or used a blade like this. Perhaps a barber, bank robber, businessman, soldier?
The razor shows very little if any hone ware. Grind quality of this razor is quarter hollow with a cutting edge measuring nearly 3 inches in length and a blade width of 6/8+. The sweeping spine is adorned with the engraving "Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor."
Scales were handcrafted from ruby red acrylic and offset with a cream colored acrylic wedge. Brass pins hold the scale set together hearkening back to the razor's inception.
This razor will arrive very keen and sterile ready for its next shaving adventure.
Happy shaving!
